Engine temp going up and down
WebNov 4, 2024 · My car has been running hot and I'm going to be putting in a Thermostat to fix this. However, I have noticed that when I turn on my Air Conditioning, the temperature goes down. I would expect turning the Heat on to cool the engine as it uses the Engines Coolant to heat the air (which would cool the air somewhat) but not the A/C. Radiator was replaced last month. Never seen the gauge act like this.

I'd say you may have a bad temperature sensor, a badO2 sensor, a clogged catalytic converter, a bad EGR valve, or bad PCV valve. It could be a combination ofthe five. I replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system and put green coolant back in. Took the truck for a spin that night and everything was cool, coolant styed at 191 the entire trip.
