He had a US M1841 Coehorn type bed made to mount it on, and it is shown in a photograph accompanying the article.

It too me about a month of spare time to make, starting with some rough cut white oak planks and going from there. Construction is complicated because the contest was to use specific pieces of steel while it is easiest to make the barrel from a single piece assuming you can drill/bore the bore.
